How much cash should I bring?

It’s up to you. Bring enough money to shop for souvenirs and gifts in the markets. It is a nice way to support the local artisans.  The conference price includes one healing session. If you decide to have an additional healing, a sweat lodge or plant medicine ceremonies, the extra cost is  $125 per shaman/ceremony. You can also charge this fee to PayPal or your credit card on our website at www.theandessummit.com.

Credit cards usually are accepted in larger stores and restaurants.  Some businesses might also add a surcharge for using a credit card. Also, check with your bank to see if they add additional fees. Note: this is not the case with most U.S. credit cards because the transactions in Ecuador are in U.S. Dollars.

Should I bring gifts for the shamans?

Yes. Traditionally, it is customary to honor the shaman with a gift of food or sacred objects. You can bring loose tobacco, cigarettes, Aqua Florida, sage bundles, small crystals, dark chocolate, sweets for the family or anything you please. One or two gifts are enough to honor each of the shamans.

How do I dress for healings with the shamans?

Cleansing ceremonies are often performed using the blowing of sugar cane rum alcohol, fire, and smoke, also the administration of oils, eggs, stones, flowers and other sacred natural elements. Hence, traditionally no clothing or very minimal dressing is recommended (underwear/shorts, bathing suit), as it allows the skin to absorb the healing essences better and to discharge negative energies. However, you can decide to dress according to your level of comfort. Either way, please wear comfortable and loose clothing.
